Lt. Governor Nungesser invites all states to send a chef to compete in the 2018 Great American Seafood Cook-Off

            It is my pleasure to invite your state to participate in the 14th Annual Great American Seafood Cook-Off, the nation’s most prestigious seafood cooking competition. The Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board and the Louisiana Restaurant Association (LRA) will host the event taking place during the LRA Foodservice Expo in New Orleans on August 4, 2018.

            I am asking you to appoint a chef to compete in this unique opportunity to highlight your state’s culinary talent and seafood industry.  By coming together, GASCO allows us to put a spotlight on our nation’s domestic seafood industry which has faced many threats to its survival.  The chef you select to represent your state will use your local seafood as they compete against other professionals from across the country who are also preparing sustainable, domestic seafood from their home states.  A panel of nationally recognized chefs and media will judge the competition. The winner will be declared the “2018 King or Queen of American Seafood”.

            Once chefs are selected the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board will launch a multi-media public relations effort to promote GASCO.  Each year the national focus on seafood and chefs from competing states attracts numerous local and national stories and more than 50 million impressions all promoting our states’ roles in the seafood industry.   

            Only 18 chefs will be eligible to participate, and we are accepting on a first come, first serve basis.
